Call for exclusive book chapters:
“FinTech Research and Applications: Challenges and Opportunities”
About : The environment for international financial services has become extremely competitive and the financial services sector is more technology-intensive than it has ever been. The recent global financial crisis along with the financial implications of the Covid-19 pandemic has revealed that the business models and regulatory frameworks in place in different countries are incomplete and insufficient to prevent further build-ups of vulnerabilities in the financial services sector that can generate systemic risk in the financial system. Moreover, competition from non-bank financial intermediation and technology firms has forced banks and financial services firms to concentrate further on new business opportunities, new business models, and modernized market practices that are based on digital transformation. Financial Technology (FinTech)
is a rapidly growing industry that uses technology to improve financial services, serving both consumers and businesses alike but alongside these opportunities, regulatory challenges lie ahead. |

Call for Papers on “The Impact of COVID-19 on Financial Markets, Banking Systems, and the Overall Economy”
About : COVID-19 emerged as a black swan event that stifled the global economy. COVID-19 resulted in social isolation within countries, closed borders, loss of business, loss of employment, industry-wide shutdowns, and many more adverse economic effects. Governments across the globe initiated fiscal and monetary stimulus programs to combat the damaging economic effects caused by the virus. Volatility in the financial markets spiked in the aftermath of the crisis, most likely due to difficulty in estimating the extent of the economical damage caused by this global event, which is still unfolding. The extent of the downturn could be felt over many years. Finance Research Letters invites researchers to submit short focused papers for this special issue on The Impact of COVID-19 on Financial Markets, Banking systems, and the Overall Economy. John Goodell presents brief anthology of the potential impact of COVID – 19 on financial markets in his recent article titled “COVID-19 and finance: Agendas for future research” forthcoming in Finance Research Letters and also listed on the U.S. National Institute of Health website - https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7152896/ . Authors may refer to Goodell (2020) for directions on research topics. |

Quest for Restoring Financial Stability in India Kindle Edition - Book
About:Beyond the headline-grabbing issues, the Indian economy is struggling to solve a critical problem: How to restore and maintain financial stability on a durable basis. In this book titled, Quest for Restoring Financial Stability in India, Former Deputy Governor of RBI, Dr. Viral V. Acharya, talks about his quest for restoring financial stability in India and offers a concrete plan for sustained improvement. Dr Acharya shares a feasible plan to address the recapitalization needs of public sector banks, offering solutions on how to improve credit allocation by credit intermediaries and establish viable and efficient capital markets. Elucidating the need-of-the-hour reforms, this book also raises several stark and unanswered questions related to the re-emergence of fiscal dominance in India, not just of monetary policy tools but also of banking regulations. It makes a persuasive case for striking the right balance between the government, centralbank, private sector and markets, in order to improve long-run growth prospects for the real economy.

The Great Demographic Reversal: Book
AboutThis original and panoramic book proposes that the underlying forces of demography and globalisation will shortly reverse three multi-decade global trends – it will raise inflation and interest rates, but lead to a pullback in inequality. “Whatever the future holds”, the authors argue, “it will be nothing like the past”. Deflationary headwinds over the last three decades have been primarily due to an enormous surge in the world’s available labour supply, owing to very favourable demographic trends and the entry of China and Eastern Europe into the world’s trading system. This book demonstrates how these demographic trends are on the point of reversing sharply, coinciding with a retreat from globalisation. The result? Ageing can be expected to raise inflation and interest rates, bringing a slew of problems for an over-indebted world economy, but is also anticipated to increase the share of labour, so that inequality falls. Covering many social and political factors, as well as those that are more purely macroeconomic, the authors address topics including ageing, dementia, inequality, populism, retirement and debt finance, among others. |

Behavioral Finance: The Second Generation: Book
About:Behavioral finance presented in this book is the second-generation of behavioral finance. The first generation, starting in the early 1980s, largely accepted standard finance’s notion of people’s wants as “rational” wants—restricted to the utilitarian benefits of high returns and low risk. That first generation commonly described people as “irrational”—succumbing to cognitive and emotional errors and misled on their way to their rational wants. The second generation describes people as normal. It begins by acknowledging the full range of people’s normal wants and their benefits—utilitarian, expressive, and emotional—distinguishes normal wants from errors, and offers guidance on using shortcuts and avoiding errors on the way to satisfying normal wants. People’s normal wants include financial security, nurturing children and families, gaining high social status, and staying true to values. People’s normal wants, even more than their cognitive and emotional shortcuts and errors, underlie answers to important questions of finance, including saving and spending, portfolio construction, asset pricing, and market efficiency. |

Applied Regression Analysis for Business- Book.
About:Regression analysis, as a part of statistics and econometrics, constitutes one of the most commonly applied quantitative analytical tool in economics and business. It serves various purposes, from simple inferring about directions and strengths of relationships between economic variables to simulating and forecasting the future. However, it is often abused, either by being applied in areas which by their nature are “immune” to statistical modeling (where obtaining reliable statistical findings or forecasts is often impossible, even though elegant regression models may be built) or by being applied without adequate care devoted to possible traps (e.g., structural changes occurring within modeled relationships or a presence of multivariate outliers).

EFM 2020 Special Issue_Call for Papers_Machine Learning Finance
About: At the present time, machine learning and its interaction with financial decision is of topical interest. Given the
increasing volume of research in this area, accurate historical records, and the quantitative nature of the finance world, machine
learning methods find fruitful applications in areas such as trading, risk modelling, natural language processing, risk
management and pricing. Machine learning techniques are increasingly extending and enhancing decision-making in finance,
insurance and economics through such means as analyzing data trends, providing forecasts, developing data consistency,
quantifying financial risk, and suggesting courses of action. Financial Times argue that 89% of European banks have started
work with machine learning, while the US banking sector plans to invest more than $20 billion in new technologies by 2020
(13/5/18, FT).

EFM Special Issue- “Financial Innovation, Regulations and Banking”
About:The fast-growing adoption of financial innovation is rapidly changing the value chain in financial services
encompassing banking, insurance, asset management, and capital markets. Such innovation is helping to revolutionize
payments, wealth advisory services (through robotic systems), fundraising, and investment activities. The emerging financial
solutions are also rapidly being developed to help banks and other financial firms deal with the complexities of regulatory
compliance and other operational issues. The emergence of blockchain technology and cryptocurrencies have also altered the
ways in which data can be stored securely and anonymously (through distributed ledger systems). Ways in which we view the
role and functions of currencies have also changed by the emergence of over 3000 digital currencies. Fincial innovation and
financial technology developments will create great opportunities but will also pose new sources of risks to the banking sector.
Traditional bank business models are being reconfigured. Increased competition and narrower profit margins from traditional
banking (as well as capital markets and insurance) areas will force existing players to adopt new technologies, improve
customer experience, and open up new revenue streams to address these challenges. |

EFM Special Issue 2-Ship Finance and Financial Risk Management- Call for papers
About: Since the financial crisis of 2008, the near-collapse of the European banking system together with an everincreasing regulatory banking framework resulted in market players in the international shipping industry to experience lack of bank finance liquidity, with high margins, low loan-to-value ratios and restrictive covenants and collaterals. This created a paradigm shift in the global ship finance market, as new entrants have appeared in new regions while new structured products have been offered to the industry. Such examples include the public capital markets for equity and debt, the high yield bond market, Export Credit Agencies, the appearance of ship finance companies, the entrance to the industry of private ship funds, together with the Asian Banks and related financial intermediates. Furthermore, a series of Mergers & Acquisitions took place across all traditional shipping sectors, together with structured risk management solutions to hedge the adverse price fluctuations of freight rates, vessel values and bunker prices. In such an uncertain environment, a new business model is emerging for the international maritime transportation industry, where market players need to evolve and learn to react quickly to change and market disruptions. The objective of the Special Issue is to publish high quality papers on shipping finance and maritime financial risk management, and thus, provide a platform for researchers to expand the existing knowledge in this area, by providing plausible answers to the aforementioned market challenges and disruptions |
